Chef Angelica Ramirez

Chef Angelica Ramirez was born and raised in Chicago, IL, being the youngest of her siblings she was very close with her mom and spent a lot of time in the kitchen helping her make traditional Mexican dishes for dinner.  The first thing she learned how to cook was rice since she watched her mom make it every day and to this day is her favorite thing to eat.

At the young age of 12, Angelica told her mom that she wanted to go to culinary school. While in high school she participated in many cooking competitions, which later landed her a scholarship at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. She graduated from CIA in 2015 and moved back to Chicago where she worked at a Vietnamese restaurant in the West Loop. Wanting to grow in her career, she joined the Marriott family and was part of two hotel openings.

Her biggest joy when she is not spending time at the dog park reading a book or listening to a podcast, comes from teaching her team about different cultures and cuisines and all she has learned in her journey. The fun and excitement from cooking with family and friends is something she always brings to the kitchen and it is expressed through her food.

"Food to me is all about the memories that come with it. I love that some bites of food can take me back to my home in Chicago, sitting in the kitchen with my mom watching her cook and listening to her explain what she is doing and why. Also, taking me back to Mexico sitting with my grandfather on the hammock enjoying a pitaya."

Chef Angelica likes to spend her time reading cookbooks and testing new recipes finding ways to add a little bit of herself to every dish, in hopes that your trip is memorable not only for the travel but because of the food.
